One of the requests we hear a lot is that our Clients would like to give the ability to their Knack App Users to be able to import records to their App. Right now, records in Knack are submitted by the User filling out a form and hitting submit. But doing this 1000 times in a row is time consuming and frankly, a waste of time. This data can be uploaded through the Knack Builder… however, it is not ideal to allow access to the Knack Builder to unfamiliar Users.
So, in response to these requests we have developed the Quantum Data Importer (QDI). This system allows the Users of your Knack App to import data through the App UI instead of through the Knack Builder.
Some questions that we here often are:
Q: “Will the QDI run into my API limit?”
A: No. We use the API to populate the connected field selections at the top (see demo video below), but no API calls are used for the actual record imports.
Q: “Is this a hosted service?”
A: Yes. To make this a seamless services, we are required to host the QDI. The QDI service is $200 a year per Knack App.
Q: “Is this a simple Plug-n-Play set up?”
A: No. Fine Mountain Consulting will need to install and configure the QDI for your App. The cost of this installation will vary based on the complexity of your import.
Q: “Is the data entered into the QDI Validated?”
A” Yes. We can build data validation into the QDI to ensure that the data entered is compatible with the field it will end up in. For example, a Number field in Knack will not accept Characters. The video below demonstrates this validation feature.
